Wikinews interviews Frank McEnulty, independent candidate for US President

While nearly all cover of the 2008 Presidential election has focused on the Democratic and Republican candidates, there are small political parties offering candidates, and those who choose to run without a party behind them, independents.

Wikinews is interviewing some of these citizens who are looking to become the 43rd person elected to serve their nation from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW.

First off is Long Beach, California’s Frank McEnulty (b. 1956), a married father of two with an MBA (Venture Management) and BS (Accounting/Finance).

The Fastest Way To Pay Off Debt

There’s some debate among financial planners as to the best way to pay down debt. Some say paying the highest interest rate debt first is the best way; others say paying the smallest balance first is the best way.

Both methods have advantages and disadvantages, so we’ll take a look at both, and help you decide which method is best for you.

Method #1 – Highest Interest Rate

In this method, you focus on paying off your highest interest rate debts first. The basic steps in this method include:

1. List all debts in order from the highest interest rate to the lowest interest rate.

2. Commit to paying the minimum payment on every debt.

3. Determine how much extra can be applied to the highest interest rate debt.

4. Pay the minimum amount plus the extra amount towards the debt with the highest interest rate until it is paid off.

5. When that debt is paid off, apply the amount you were paying to the debt that is paid off to the next highest interest rate debt until paid off.

6. Repeat until all debts are paid in full.

This method is the best method mathematically, as you will pay less interest in the long run.

Method #2 – Lowest Balance

In this method, your focus is on the debt with the lowest balance. Note: this method was made popular by Dave Ramsey and is often called the Debt Snowball method.

The basic steps in this method include:

1. List all debts in order from the smallest balance to the largest balance.

2. Commit to paying the minimum payment on every debt.

3. Determine how much extra can be applied to the smallest balance debt.

4. Pay the minimum amount plus the extra amount towards the debt with the smallest balance until it is paid off.

5. When that debt is paid off, apply the amount you were paying to the debt that is paid off to the next smallest balance debt until paid off.

6. Repeat until all debts are paid in full.

This method may not be the best method mathematically, as you will pay more interest in the long run. However, this method allows you to pay smaller debts off faster, which may give you the motivation you need to stick to your debt payment plan.

So, which method is best for you? It depends

Method #1 is best for you if:

* You have debts with similar balances

* You have discipline to stick to your debt repayment plan

* You are a numbers person, and you realize the benefit of paying off the highest interest rate debt first

Method #2 may be best for you if:

* Your debts do not have similar balances – i.e., you have a $500 credit card balance, a $12,000 credit card balance, and several in between

* You need motivation – paying off the smallest credit card balance may be the motivation you need to stick to your debt repayment plan

* You don’t mind paying more interest over the long run in exchange for getting rid of smaller balances first

Tip: Why not use a combination of the two methods? Using a combination of both methods allows you to feel a sense of accomplishment by paying off that first debt (the smallest balance credit card), and gives you the motivation to start working on the next debt (the debt with the highest interest rate).

Remember, the method that works best for you is the one you will actually use. The most important thing is to make a plan and stick to it so you can live debt free.

Exxonmobil burns off excess fuel in Jurong Island, Singapore

As of 9 am this morning, flaring is still being carried out by ExxonMobil at Jurong Island, Singapore.

This is the 3rd day flaring works are being carried out by the company to burn off excess fuel from the refinery plant.

The flame, according to Ms Eva Ho, Communications Manager of ExxonMobil, is dying. ExxonMobil wishes to assure members of the public that no health risk is posed as water and carbon dioxide are produced as a result of the flaring.

Meng Yew Choong, Assistant Director of Corporate Communication at the National Environment Agency also clarifies:

“The hydrocarbon gases are burnt safely into water vapour and carbon dioxide, both harmless gases. Hence, there are no health concerns.”

Regular STOMP contributor Mike Muk shot a video of the flaring as well and he sent it in to Stomp.

STOMPer NZSheep also sent a picture to a website, offering the closest look of the flaring activity, taken just outside the security fences surrounding Jurong Island.

They can also be things like teddy bears, blankets and dolls that hold sentimental value to your child. A blanket that your child was given at birth may serve the same purpose as the teddy bear, in addition to keeping them warm at night.Some other forms of toys include ones that are used primarily outside. CNN headquarters infected with computer worm, exaggerates global threat

CNN television news gave extensive coverage starting around 5:30 PM EST today to a new computer virus, a worm dubbed rbot.cbq. Its reporting suggested that it had the potential to become one of the most virulent and costly yet seen. This story was unique among cyber-attacks reports as the network apparently learned of the virus through becoming one of its early victims. Media organizations ABC and the New York Times were affected as well. Perhaps first-hand experience gave the studio more insight on the virus while providing an early notice. The coverage that followed, however, raises concerns that the network’s perspective was skewed, and that perhaps the damage even diminished its reporting ability.

CNN treated the story as a potential global crisis in its manner of coverage as well as in the advice given to viewers. For over 45 minutes, by one viewer’s tally, CNN devoted exclusive air-time to this topic. Home users were advised to turn off their computers for safety, while businesses were warned that if continued operations prevented this measure, they were at high risk. CNN.com sported a bold red headline above its usual content area, warning of the virus. CNN stated they were requesting reports from key sources across the nation, including California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

After some time, the network eventually obtained a Microsoft statement describing the virus as “low-impact” and only affecting computers running Windows 2000. CNN also learned from Microsoft that there was a patch available at Microsoft’s web site. CNN’s coverage contrasted with a lack of actual evidence of widespread infections, in this reporter’s view. Much of the discussion and advice came from experts probably not officially associated with CNN, so there is a question of who is at fault.

Chris Carboni of the Internet Storm Center speculated that “The fact that CNN, ABC and the NYTimes got it may be as simple as reporters from these organizations visiting the same event and connecting to an infected network. While a firewall may have protected their office network up to now, these infected laptops were able to take out the network from the inside once they connected back to it.”

Spelbound declared winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2010

An acrobatic group known by the name of Spelbound has been declared as the winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2010, a televised variety talent show competition broadcast on ITV in the United Kingdom. As the winning act of the show, Spelbound have won £100,000 (US$144,580, €120,313, A$175,079) and a place at The Royal Variety Performance, an annual gala evening that is attended by senior members of the British Royal Family.

In no particular order, the top three acts were revealed to be two dancers known by their stage name of Twist and Pulse, gymnastic group Spelbound and Kieran Gaffney, whose act involves playing on the drum kit. After Kieran Gaffney was revealed to be in third place, Anthony McPartlin, who hosts Britain’s Got Talent with Declan Donnelly, said to Kieran: “Well done Kieran. Kieran, you’re a star, you came back, you got all the way to the final. I know you’ve loved this. You’ve loved this, haven’t you?” In response to this, Kieran Gaffney stated: “Thank you very much. Thank you, everyone for supporting me. Thank you.”

Shortly afterwards, on the episode that was broadcast live on ITV1 on Saturday, Anthony announced: “After tens of thousands of auditons, five semi-finals and an amazing final, this…this is it. One of you is about to walk away with £100,000 and a place at this year’s Royal Variety Performance. The winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2010 is…Spelbound!” Glen Murphy from Twist and Pulse commented about finishing in second place, stating: “Yeah, it’s amazing. I can’t even believe it. I can’t believe it at all.”

Alex Uttley, a 24-year-old member of Spelbound, commented on the gymnastic group’s victory, commenting: “Oh, my god. This is unbelieveable. We just want to say thank you to everyone out there. It just shows that all our hard work has paid off.” One of the coaches of Spelbound, named Neil Griffiths, stated about Spelbound: “Oh, they’ve worked so hard over the last few weeks. Um, since the semi-final, we…we really had to pull out the stops to try and up the game. They’ve not known they’ve worked in the gym from six in the morning till twelve…twelve o’clock of the night. I couldn’t have asked for more. Um, it’s a team of coaches. I don’t take all the credit myself. There’s, uh, two people up there that know who they are who’ve been fantastic.”

Spelbound consists of 24-year-old Alex Uttley, Nicholas Illingworth, aged 24, Adam Buckingham, aged 21, 20-year-old Adam McAssey, 19-year-old Douglas Fordyce, 18-year-old Edward Upcott, 18-year-old Leighanne Cowler, 17-year-old Katie Axten, 17-year-old Lauren Kemp, 15-year-old Jonathan Stranks, Abigail Ralph, aged 15, 13-year-old Hollianne Wood and Amy Mackenzie, aged 12. Bookmakers had previously predicted that Spelbound would be the most likely act to become the winner of the series.

The running order for the final started with Twist and Pulse. The second act to perform was Liam McNally, a 14-year-old singer. The running order subsequently continued with 40-year-old impressionist Paul Burling, singer Christopher Stone, aged 28, Tina & Chandi, a woman and dog dancing act, Connected, a five-piece singing group, Kieran Gaffney, aged 12, 22-year-old Tobias Mead, a dancer, 80-year-old singer Janey Cutler and Spelbound in that particular order.

Earlier on in the final, Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden has stated to Spelbound: “We are hosting the 2012 Olympics and I think ‘what a brilliant opening act’.” Fellow judge Piers Morgan also commented that “[t]he purpose of this show is to identify hidden great British talent. You are that act.” After Spelbound won in the final, another judge, named Simon Cowell, stated that “the right boys and girls won on the night” and that he could “only say on live TV that that was one of the most astonishing things I have ever seen. Seriously.”

There are several different permits that a commercial trucker may be required to acquire for his vehicle. There are rules governing truck lengths, and for trucks that are too long an Excess Length Permit may be required. Similarly, a permit may be required for trucks that have excessive weight and/or excessive dimensions which may be better known as oversize and/or overweight trucks. Then there are single trip permits, fuel permits, hauling permits, and the list goes on. When applying for a permit you should know the total dimensions and the gross weight of the truck plus its load along with the weight for each axle and the distance between axles. Your route from beginning to end is usually required.

If you need an Overweight Truck Permit Florida, you can get it from a company such as Coast 2 Coast Trucking Permits LLC. A good permit company can take care of all your permit needs for each state. However, there are certain Federal requirements for interstate highways and other Federal highways. Maximum weights include a gross vehicle weight of 80,000 pounds with a single axle weight of 20,000 pounds and a tandem axle weight of 34,000 pounds. No Federal requirement exists for height or length. Still, there is a weight formula that trucks must comply with if they wish to cross a Federal bridge. You will need to know how many axles you have and their spacing so that you can plug these values into the Federal bridge formula.

If you are moving overweight freight through Florida, you will need an Overweight Truck Permit Florida. Legal limits in Florida are a little different from the Federal limits. The gross weight of 80,000 pounds is the same, but the single axle weight of 22,000 pounds is higher as is the tandem axle weight of 44,000 pounds. The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) office in Florida has an enforcement program that was established to protect the system of highways from overweight vehicle damage. CVE officers perform weighings of commercial vehicles at 20 weigh stations throughout the state. They also conduct mobile enforcement by using portable scales. The average fine for illegal transporting is about 500 dollars while the cost of a permit is usually less than 40 dollars. Plus it is relatively easy to get a permit. Three dead infants found in Canadian home

The remains of three children were discovered in a bucket at a home at 1302 Sandford Street in London, Ontario in Canada on Saturday, June 6, 2009. The bodies were in an advanced state of decomposition, so much so that it was originally thought to be a single corpse until further investigation revealed that it was actually the remains of three children.

“He came outside and told everybody he discovered this bucket,” a neighbour of the resident who discovered the remains, told CBC News. “He said his girlfriend had this bucket for two years with gardening stuff in it, and he opened it on Saturday, and it was [filled with] bloody clothes and a blanket, and he called the police.”

“Due to the decomposition it was difficult to see that there was more than one there. The bodies have been decomposing, it could be over a number of years,” said London Police Detective-Superintendent Ken Heslop, “We won’t know anything until, I’m hoping, Thursday or Friday, depending on how long the examinations take.”

Jennifer Sinn, 32, a former resident of the building has been charged with concealing a child’s body and offering an indignity to a dead human body. Neighbours have described her as a recluse staying to herself with parents delivering meals to her. Neighbours have also come forward saying that a young child about one year old has not been seen for awhile and that there had also been two older children. Police are seeking any further information in the case.

There is no report of charges against the man who called the police to report the bodies, who is believed to be the ex-boyfriend of Sinn, who is charged with the crime. Reportedly, she had moved out of the building two weeks prior to the discovery of the bodies.

The London police are following up with local police at various locations where the young lady had resided before.

The provincial forensic pathology unit in Toronto, Ontario will undertake the full autopsies.

Constable Amy Phillipo said, “The investigation into the cause and manner of death of the three infants is continuing.”

Chennaiyin FC score late goal, beat Goa 3-2 to win Indian Super League 2015

Today, Chennai-based football club Chennaiyin FC defeated FC Goa 3–2 at Fatorda Stadium in Margao in the Indian Super League final.

The match saw five yellow cards, two for the home side. Chennai’s Mehrajuddin Wadoo was the first one to be booked in the 18th minute. In the 33rd minute, Goa’s Moura’s shot was deflected by Wadoo. With a single booking, the first half ended 0–0.

In the second half, in the 53rd minute, Pronay Halder committed a foul on Chennai’s Stiven Mendoza in the penalty area, and the visitors were awarded a penalty kick. Stepping forward for the kick, Bruno Pelissari’s kick was saved by Laxmikant Kattimani but the ball bounced back, and Pelissari made no mistake, scoring. Chennai got a 1–0 lead.

Thoi Singh was booked in the 57th minute. Halder, in the 58th minute, assisted Thongkhosiem Haokip and the Indian footballer scored an equaliser for the home side. Grégory Arnolin received a yellow card in the 60th minute for protesting the referee’s decision. Chennai was awarded another penalty kick. Stiven Mendoza stood up for the penalty, but missed.

Table-turning events took place in the dying moments of the game. Jofre scored a goal in the 87th minute. A minute later, he was yellow-carded; but, Goa had a 2–1 lead. Goa’s goalie Laxmikant Kattimani scored an own goal for a 2–2 equaliser and in the additional time, Mendoza netted a goal assisted by Jayesh Rane. Next minute, Mendoza was yellow-carded, but the final whistle blew a few moments later, and Chennaiyin FC won the second edition of the Indian Super League in the 3–2 goal tally.

MySpace to expand to mobile music

News Corp. has purchased a controlling interest in Jamba, the ringtone company created by VeriSign. The $188 million give News Corp. a 51% interest in the public-owned company.

Jamba, and its American brand Jamster, will be merged into News Corp.’s Mobizzo. Mobizzo sells short video clips of television series. It is expected MySpace will integrate the ringtone sales somehow into News Corp.’s social networking website MySpace; MySpace recently announced it would sell music on its website.

News Corp President and CEO Peter Chernin commented to Reuters that “wireless technology gives us an enormous opportunity to reach billions of mobile phone users with our content”.

The announcement was made this morning by News Corporation, which owns MySpace.
